In The Sunny Day
Last weekend, my family and I went to Rongkang beach near our grandparents' house. The day was sunny and hot, of course. It was on June. That's why the day was very bright. In our country, Indonesia, We had two seasons. They were dry season and rainy season. The dry season started from May and lasted for 5 months. While, rainy season started from November and ended in March. The view was so beautiful. There were many people at the beach. Most of them were teenagers.
We were having fun. We built a sandcastle. We had to rebuild twice before it really stoodup. The first attempt failed because we built it too close to the water. And the second attempt, the successful one, was just right. The spot we chose was not too close to the water and the mixture was good.
Our parents loved our work. Some people who passed our castle loved it, too. They even took pitures near our castle. We were so proud of our work that day.
A Tour to the Botanic Gardens
On Thursday 24 April, Year Eight students went to the Botanic Gardens. We walked down and got into the bus.
After we arrived at the gardens, we walked down to the Education Centre. We went to have a look around. First we went to the Orchid Farm and Mrs. Rita read us some of the information. Then we looked at all the lovely plants. After that we went down to a little spot in the Botanic Gardens and had morning tea.
Next we took some pictures and then we went back to the Education Centre to have lunch. After that we went for a walk.
A lady took us around and introduced herself, then she explained what we were going to do. Next she took us in to the green house. It was most interesting.
Soon after we had finished we went back outside. Finally we got into the bus and returned to school. We were tired but happy.
A Big Snake in the Drain
The workmen who were building the new hospital in my town caught a snake last month. It was in the drain near the building construction site.
Early in the morning, a workman was just going to sit under the tree when suddenly he saw a long creature lying in the drain. It did not move when he was approaching it. Then he shouted to the other workmen who were going to start to work. Then, they caught the 8 – metre long phyton and brought it to the authority of the zoo in this town. The diameter of its body was about 25 centimeters. They believed that the snake might belong to someone living in the area. The police were trying to find the owner.
Sue's Letter
Dear Grandpa and Grandma,
Yesterday at my school we had an International day. We had performances, food stalls, displays,
raffle ticket draw, and some of us were dressed in costumes.
We started our day off with performances but the one I liked best was the one from fourth grade. We played games. The performance I was in was Labamba .
Straight after our performances we had our lunch. There were food stalls. They came from Australia, Asia, Arab, and Greece .
Everyone had a job. These people were from sixth grade. I did my job after I had lunch. My job was to sell International Day Books.
We had displays in the hall. These displays were good but I didn’t get to see them. The displays
came from a lot of countries.
There was also a Trash and Treasure stall where they sold toys. The school got these things by
asking the children to bring them in .
Although I didn’t win anything, International Day was still fun .
Sandra Got Sick
One day Sandra Dewi fell sick in the middle of the English lesson. All the students did reading tasks. Suddenly Sandra Dewi vomited. All other students stopped writing. Mrs. Lidia helped her immediately. The chairman of the class sent for the school’s doctor.
In five minutes the doctor came. He examined her carefully. He examined her eyes. He felt her stomach. He listened to her heart beat. He measured her blood pressure.
Then he took her temperature. “I’m afraid she suffers from malaria. Her temperature is very high. That is why she vomited. She has a very bad cough, too. I’ll give her some pills for her malaria, some tablets for her fever, and syrup for her cough. She needs a week’s rest”, said the doctor

Maya Gazali was born in Palu. She grew up in a small village. She began school when she was six years old. She went to elementary school, but she didn’t go to high school. Her family was very poor, and she had to go to work when she was thirteen years old. She worked on an assembly line in a shoe factory.
When Maya was seventeen years old, her family moved to West Java. First, they lived in Bogor, and then they moved to Bandung. When Maya arrived in Java, she wasn’t very happy. She missed her friends back in Palu and she didn’t speak like other children. She began to learn to speak like other children, and she practiced with her new friends at the factory in Bandung.
Maya also studied hard. She learned English, and after a few months she got a job as a secretary. Now Maya still studies at night, but now she studies advertising at a business school. She wants to work for an advertising company some day and write commercials.
Maya still misses her friends back home, but she communicates with them very often over the Internet. She’s very happy now, and she’s looking forward to an exciting future.
My Bad Experience
I was driving along the coast road when the car suddenly lurched to one side. At first I thought a type had gone but that then I saw telegraph poles collapsing like matchsticks. The rocks came tumbling across the road and I had to abandon the car. There was an earthquake. When I got back to town, there wasn’t much left.
Horrible Fly
I am used to travelling by air and only on one occasion I have ever felt frightened. After taking off, we flew low over the city. It slowly went high to the sky. But suddenly it turned round and flew back to the airport.
An airhostess told us to keep calm and to get off the plane quietly as soon as it touched down. Everybody on board was worried and we were curious to find out what happened. Later we learnt that there was a very important person on board. Earlier somebody told the police that there was a bomb on the plane. After we landed, the police searched the plane carefully. Fortunately, they did not find a bomb and five hours later we were able to take off again.(Ini adalah Event).
Class Picnic
Last Friday our school went to Centennial Park for a picnic.
First our teachers marked the rolls and the we got on the buses. On the buses, everyone was chatting and eating. When we arrived at the park, some students played cricket, some played cards but others went for a walk with the teachers. At lunchtime, we sat together and had our picnic. Finally, at two o’clock we left for school.
We had a great day.
Bomb in Bali
The bomb, in the resort of Kuta, destroyed the Sari Club and a crowded nightspot. Many people have fallen victims to this blast. Many of them were foreign tourists, especially from Australia. They were burner beyond recognition. Some tourist who were at the scene of the blast said there were two explosions around the nightclub. One bomb had exploded outside Paddy’s Bar before a Bar bomb hit the Sari Club which was located some meters away.
Hundred were injured in the explosion and about 220 Australians remain unaccounted for. The U.K. Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, said that 33 Britons were among those killed in the Bali attack. The Australian Primer Minister, John Howard, called its borders, saying it had been a problem for a long time.
Lists of missing people have been posted in Bali and official said that it could take days to identity all the victims, some of whom were trapped in the Sari Club by a wall of flames. A notice board at the hospital in Bali includes a section called “Unknown Identity” and detailed list on victims such as : “Young girl in intensive care, 11-14 years old, face burned, income, Causation,” or “Girl in intensive care, about 5 years old, 130 cm, fair skin, Caucasian with reddish brown hair. She has a purplish belly button ring.”
Many embassies, including the British and the American, are advising their people to cancel spending their planned holidays in Indonesia, and all U.S. citizens in the country have been told to leave including diplomats and non-essential government staff.
Children Day's
On Children's Day in 1999, a technology company treated more than 200 underprivileged children to a 'high-tech' experience. They were given training on information technology.
The company wanted to provide opportunities for these children to learn more about the Internet and the latest technology. They wanted to help the less fortunate in the community.
The children had an enjoyable and educational experience that day. They were exposed to the new technology for the first time and they were very interested. The company hoped to conduct many more such training sessions for these children. They fell that the skills the children had would be useful to them when they grew up.
The company was very active in caring for the less fortunate. They even put aside one day a year for their employees to do volunteer work to help the needy. They also donated money to many charitable organisations.
Many people had benefited from their efforts. Many also praised the company for being so generous towards the needy.
My Horrible Experience
Let me remind you my experience during an earthquake last week. When the earthquake happened, I was on my car. I was driving home from my vocation to Bali.
Suddenly my car lunched to one side, to the left. I thought I got flat tire. I did not know that it was an earthquake. I knew it was an earthquake when I saw some telephone and electricity poles falling down to the ground, like matchsticks.
Then I saw a lot of rocks tumbling across the road. I was trapped by the rock. Even I could not move my car at all. There were rocks everywhere. There was nothing I could do but left the car and walked along way to my house, in the town.
When I reached my town, I was so surprised that there was almost nothing left. The earthquake made a lot of damage to my town. Although nothing was left, I thanked God that nobody was seriously injured.
